Solar panels generate while light is on the roof. A battery stores some of that electricity for later in the day. It can be fitted with a new array or added where an existing array and inverter can accept it. The quote names the battery scope, any inverter changes, the materials, and the labour.

0% VAT on a home battery fitted at your home from 1 February 2024 until 31 March 2027. From 1 April 2027 the rate is 5%. That covers a battery added to solar, wind, or hydro, a battery fitted with that system as one job, and a battery on its own that stores electricity from the grid. Houses and blocks of flats both qualify. If you only buy the battery and nobody fits it, VAT is at the standard rate.

Home Energy Scotland can pay a grant of up to £7,500 towards a heat pump, and you can add an optional interest-free loan of £7,500. The same page also lists heat network connections, solar thermal, solar PV-T, biomass, wind, and hydro. A home battery is not on that table.

The survey checks the existing or proposed array, the inverter, spare ways in the consumer unit, a ventilated place for the battery, and the cable route. If the current array needs further electrical work before storage can be added, that work is written into the quote before you decide.

You can ask for solar and a battery together, or for a battery on its own where the electrical system can take it. Heat pumps are a separate scope on the heat pump page. An EV charger, if you want one priced, is on EV charging.

Export payments for solar generation are the Smart Export Guarantee, explained on the SEG post. The supplier sets that rate. This page states the scheme, and leaves any export income for a particular house to the supplier's tariff.
