Battery storage

Home battery storage in Edinburgh and the Lothians

A home battery stores electricity so you can use it later. That can be solar power from the afternoon, or cheaper off-peak electricity from the grid on a time-of-use tariff. Pentland Renewables sizes and arranges batteries for homes across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

With new solar, or added to what you have

  • New solar + battery: designed together from the start.

  • Existing solar: a battery can often be added to panels you already have. See adding a battery to existing solar. We check your inverter and wiring on the survey.

  • No solar: a battery can still charge from the grid at off-peak times, depending on your tariff.

How we size a battery

We look at how much electricity you use, when you use it, what your panels produce (if you have them) and the tariff you're on. A bigger battery isn't always better. The right size is the one that you'll actually fill and empty most days.

Grid connection

Batteries connect to the SP Energy Networks grid. Depending on the size, that is a notify-after (G98) or an apply-first (G99) process. We tell you which applies before you commit.

0% VAT until 31 March 2027

Home batteries are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, including batteries added to an existing system.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?

Is a battery worth it without solar?

It can be, if you're on a tariff with cheaper off-peak electricity. We look at your usage and tariff before recommending anything.
